This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Luke 8:41-42, 49-56, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once there was a man named Jairus. Jairus was a leader at the synagogue and he had a twelve year old daughter who was very sick. She was so sick that she was about to die. Jairus was very worried about his daughter, so he went to Jesus for help.
Jairus found Jesus and begged Him to come to his house to help his daughter. Jesus agreed and started walking with Jairus to his home. While they were walking, a lot of people followed them.
Just then, someone came from Jairus’ house and told him, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.” Jesus heard this news, but He told Jairus, “Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well.”
When they arrived at Jairus’ house, Jesus only allowed a few people to come inside with Him: Peter, John, James, and the mother and father of the girl.
When they went inside, everyone was crying and very sad because the girl had died. But Jesus told them not to worry because the girl was just sleeping. Some people laughed at Jesus because they thought the girl was really dead. But Jesus knew that she was not gone forever, so He took her hand and said, “Child, arise!” And just like that, the girl woke up, and her spirit came back to her. Jesus asked them to give her some food to eat.
The parents of the girl were amazed, and Jesus told them not to tell anyone about what had happened.
