This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Luke 5:18-25, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once, there was a man who couldn’t move his body. He was paralyzed, which means he couldn’t walk or use his arms and legs. His friends wanted to help him, so they picked him up and carried him on a bed to see Jesus. They heard that Jesus could do amazing things, like heal sick people.
When they arrived, there were so many people that they couldn’t get inside the house where Jesus was. But they didn’t give up! They went up to the roof of the house and made a hole in it. Then, they lowered the man down on his bed right in front of Jesus.
When Jesus saw the man and his friends, he felt their faith in Him. He said to the man, “Your sins are forgiven.” This meant that Jesus forgave the man for all the wrong things he had done.
The teachers of the law, called scribes, and some important religious leaders called Pharisees, were watching and heard what Jesus said. They didn’t believe that Jesus had the power to forgive sins, because only God could do that. They thought Jesus was speaking disrespectfully about God, which is called blasphemy.
Jesus knew what they were thinking, so He asked them why they were doubting Him. He also asked them which is easier: to say “your sins are forgiven,” or to say “get up and walk”? To show that He had the power of God, Jesus told the paralyzed man to get up, pick up his bed, and go home. The man obeyed Jesus and got up. He picked up his bed and walked back home, thanking God for His mercy.
