This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Genesis 1:1-25, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
A long, long time ago, God created everything. In the beginning, there was only darkness and water. God’s Spirit was there, too.
Then, God said, “Let there be light!” And just like that, there was light. God knew the light was good. He called the light “Day” and the darkness “Night.” This was the very first day.
On the second day, God made the sky. He separated the water on the earth from the water in the sky. He called the sky “Heaven.”
On the third day, God gathered all the water on earth to make seas. He made the dry land appear and called it “Earth.” God thought it was good. Then, God made plants and trees grow on the earth, each with their own seeds and fruits. God saw that this was good, too.
Next, on the fourth day, God made the sun, the moon, and the stars. They helped separate day from night and were used to tell time, like days, months, and years. They also gave light to the earth. God was happy with what He made.
On the fifth day, God filled the seas with all kinds of fish and creatures. He also made birds to fly in the sky. God saw that this was good, so He blessed them and told them to make more of themselves.
Finally, on the sixth day, God made animals of all shapes and sizes to live on the earth. He made cows, horses, lions, and even tiny bugs. And finally, God made people! He made them in His own image, which means that people are special and important to Him. God saw that this was good, too.
God looked at everything He had made, and He saw that it was all good. Then, on the seventh day, God rested from all the work He had done. And that’s how God created the world!
