This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Joshua 5:13-15, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once upon a time, there was a man named Joshua. He was in a place called Jericho, the city were God promised to be delivered into his hands, when he looked up and saw a man with a sword. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you on our side or on our enemies’ side?”
God had promised him that the city would be delivered into his hands
The man replied, “No, I am the commander of the army of the Lord. I have come to help.”
When Joshua heard this, he fell on his face and worshiped the man. He said, “What does my lord say to his servant?”
The commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” So Joshua did as he was told.
