This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in John 20:1-8, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Mary Magdalene went to the tomb where Jesus was buried. She went there really early in the morning when it was still dark outside.
When she got to the tomb, she saw that the big stone that covered the entrance had been moved away. She was really worried and didn’t know what to do, so she went to tell Jesus’ friends, Simon Peter and another disciple, the one whom Jesus loved.
She told them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Peter and the other disciple were really surprised and didn’t know what to think. They decided to go to the tomb and see for themselves.
Both of them ran to the tomb together, but the other disciple ran faster and got there first. He looked inside and saw the linen cloths that Jesus was wrapped in lying there, but he didn’t go inside.
Then Peter arrived and went into the tomb. He also saw the linen cloths lying there, and a cloth that had been on Jesus’ head was folded up in a different spot.
The other disciple who had arrived first also went inside and saw everything. After seeing all this, they believed that Jesus had risen from the dead.
