This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Matthew 28, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
After Jesus died, His disciples placed His body in a tomb and a large stone was put in front of it to seal it shut. But on the third day, something amazing happened!
Early in the morning, two of Jesus’ friends, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, went to the tomb where Jesus was buried after he died on the cross. When they got there, they felt a big earthquake! Suddenly, an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and moved the stone away from the tomb. The angel’s clothes were white as snow, and he was bright like lightning!
The guards who were watching the tomb were so scared that they fainted. But the angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid. I know you’re looking for Jesus who was crucified. But He’s not here. He’s risen from the dead, just like He said. Come see the place where He was lying. Then go quickly and tell His disciples that Jesus has risen from the dead and that He’s going to meet them in Galilee.”
So the women were really excited and a little scared, but they ran to tell the disciples. Suddenly, they saw Jesus, and they fell at His feet and worshiped Him. Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and they will see me there.”
Later, some of the guards went to tell the chief priests what happened, and they were paid to lie and say that Jesus’ disciples stole His body while they were sleeping. But that wasn’t true at all! Jesus had really risen from the dead, just like the angel said.
Jesus appeared to His disciples in Galilee and said, “I have all the power in heaven and on earth. Go and tell everyone about me, and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them everything that I taught you. And remember, I will always be with you, even until the end of the world.”
