The Triumphal Entry – Bible Story for Kids

This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Luke 19:28-44, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.

One day, Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem with His disciples. They stopped near two towns, Bethphage and Bethany, on a mountain called Olivet.

Jesus told two of His disciples, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.” The disciples did as Jesus said and found the colt just as He had told them.

While untying the colt, its owners asked them why they were taking it. The disciples replied, “The Lord has need of it.” They brought the colt to Jesus, and His disciples put their cloaks on the colt for Him to sit on.

As Jesus rode the colt, His followers put their cloaks on the ground for the colt to walk on. They also praised God, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Some of the Pharisees, a group of religious leaders, were not happy about this and asked Jesus to tell His followers to be quiet. But Jesus replied, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

As Jesus was riding, He saw the city of Jerusalem and began to cry. He said, “I wish that you knew what would bring you peace, but now it is hidden from your eyes. A time will come when your enemies will surround you, tear down your walls, and destroy everything because you didn’t know the time of your visitation.”

Biblical Lessons

Jesus is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.
We should praise God for all the mighty works He has done.
Jesus is the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament.
Jesus came to earth to bring peace and salvation to all who believe in Him.
Jesus’ actions show us how to fulfill God’s will and bring glory to Him.
Jesus’ response to the Pharisees shows us that He is not afraid to stand up for what is right and true, even when faced with opposition.
Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice on the cross is the ultimate act of love and redemption for all humanity.
