This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Joshua 6, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once upon a time, in the city of Jericho, the people were very scared of the Israelites. They closed their city so no one could go in or out. God told Joshua, their leader, that He would help them take over the city. He told Joshua that they needed to march around Jericho once a day for six days. On the seventh day, they would march around the city seven times. Then, the priests would blow their trumpets, and everyone would shout loudly. When they did that, the walls of Jericho would fall down!
Joshua listened to God and told the priests and the people what to do. They marched around the city, with the priests blowing their trumpets and carrying the Ark of the Covenant. The soldiers walked in front of the priests and behind the Ark. They did this every day for six days.
On the seventh day, they got up very early and marched around the city seven times. After the seventh time, Joshua told the people to shout because God was giving them the city. He also told them that only Rahab, the woman who helped their spies, and her family would be saved. They had to be careful not to take anything that belonged to God.
When the people shouted and the trumpets blew, the walls of Jericho fell down! The Israelites went into the city and captured it. They destroyed everything inside, but they saved Rahab and her family. They took all the gold, silver, and special metal things and put them in God’s house.
Joshua made a promise that anyone who tried to rebuild Jericho would be cursed. And so, God was with Joshua, and he became famous throughout the land.
