This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Mark 6:30-44, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once, Jesus and the apostles went on a boat ride to a quiet place to rest. But many people knew where they were going and followed them on foot. When Jesus arrived at the shore, he saw a big group of people waiting for him. He felt sorry for them because they seemed lost and confused, like sheep without a shepherd. So, he began to teach them many things.
The day went on, and the disciples started to worry about the crowd. They thought that everyone might be hungry and would need to go buy some food. But Jesus told them, “You give them something to eat.” The disciples were surprised and asked, “Should we buy two hundred denarii worth of bread to feed them all?” Jesus replied, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”
After the disciples searched, they found only five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus had everyone sit down on the green grass in groups of hundreds and fifties. Then he took the five loaves of bread and two fish, looked up to heaven, and blessed them. He broke the bread and gave it to the disciples to give to the people, and he shared the fish among everyone. Everyone ate until they were full, and the disciples collected twelve baskets of leftover pieces.
In the end, there were more than five thousand men, women, and children who ate from the five loaves of bread and two fish that Jesus had blessed. Everyone was amazed by this miracle and realized that Jesus was a great teacher sent by God.
