This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Luke 11:5-13, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once, Jesus told his followers a story. He said, “Imagine you have a friend who comes to your house late at night. He’s hungry and you have nothing to give him to eat.
So you go to another friend’s house and knock on the door, asking him for three loaves of bread. But your friend inside says, ‘I can’t give you anything, my kids are sleeping and the door is locked.’
However, you keep knocking and asking, and eventually, your friend gives you the bread you need.
Then Jesus said, “If you ask God for something, He will give it to you. If you search for something, you will find it. If you knock on God’s door, He will open it for you. For everyone who asks God will receive what they need.
If you are a parent, and your child asks for a fish to eat, would you give them a snake? Or if your child asks for an egg, would you give them a scorpion? Of course not! You give your child good things because you love them.
Well, God is our Father in heaven, and He loves us even more than we love our children. He will give us the best things, like the Holy Spirit, if we ask Him for it.”
Biblical Lessons
- Persistence in prayer is important. Just like the friend who kept knocking on his neighbor’s door, we should keep praying even if we don’t get an answer right away.
- We should trust in God’s goodness and provision. Just as a loving parent would not give their child something harmful, God always gives us what is best for us, even if it’s not what we initially asked for.
- We should be willing to help others in need, just like the friend who went to his neighbor to get bread for his hungry guest.
