Jesus before the Council – Bible Story for Kids

This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Mark 14:53-65, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.

Jesus was taken to the leader of the religious leaders. Lots of important people came to see what was going on. Peter, one of Jesus’ friends, followed from far away and ended up sitting with the guards near a fire to keep warm.

The leaders were trying to find a reason to put Jesus to death, but they couldn’t find one. Many people lied and said bad things about Jesus, but their stories didn’t match up. Some people even lied about what Jesus said! They said He wanted to destroy a building and make a new one in three days, but their stories didn’t agree either.

The leader of the religious leaders asked Jesus if He had anything to say about what the people were saying about Him. But Jesus didn’t say anything. The leader asked again, “Are you the chosen one, the Son of God?”

Jesus replied, “I am. And someday, you will see the Son of God sitting next to God’s power and coming back to earth in the clouds of heaven.”

The leader thought Jesus was lying and tore his clothes in anger. The leader said, “We don’t need any more evidence. He has spoken badly about God. What do you think we should do?”

All the leaders decided that Jesus should be put to death. Some people started being mean to Jesus by spitting on Him, covering His face, and hitting Him. They even told Jesus to tell them what was going to happen next, but He didn’t answer. The guards also hit Jesus.

Biblical Lessons

It’s important to tell the truth and not lie about other people.
Jesus is the Son of God and will always be with God in heaven.
People may mistreat us and accuse us of things we did not do, but we should trust in God’s plan and not give up on doing what is right.
Being a follower of Jesus may require us to face opposition, but we should stay faithful to Him and His teachings.
We should be careful not to judge others unfairly and be willing to seek the truth before making any decisions.
We should be willing to forgive those who have wronged us, just as Jesus forgave those who hurt Him.
Even in difficult and painful situations, we can look to Jesus as our example of how to respond with love, grace, and humility.
