This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in 1 Kings 19:19-21, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once upon a time, there was a man named Elijah. He was walking through a field and saw a man named Elisha plowing with twelve big oxen. Elijah walked up to Elisha and put his coat on him.
Elisha knew what this meant – it meant that he was supposed to be a prophet, just like Elijah! Elisha was so excited that he wanted to go with Elijah right away, but he asked if he could first go say goodbye to his family.
Elijah said, “Sure, go ahead.” But he also asked, “What did I do to make you want to follow me?”
Elisha went back home, took his oxen, and cooked them as a special meal for his family and friends. Then he said goodbye and followed Elijah as his helper.
And that’s how Elisha became a prophet, just like Elijah!

- God can call anyone to do great things, even if they don’t expect it.
- When we hear God’s call, we should follow it with excitement and courage.
