Hezekiah Reigns in Judah – Bible Story for Kids

This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in 2 Kings 18, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.

Once upon a time, there was a man named Hezekiah. He became king when he was 25 years old and he ruled for 29 years in Jerusalem. He was a good king and he did what God wanted him to do. The Bible says that “He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done.” Hezekiah was a faithful follower of God, just like King David was.

Hezekiah got rid of places where people were worshiping other gods and he broke statues that were made to worship these false gods. There was a bronze snake that Moses made a long time ago. People were worshiping it like it was a god, so Hezekiah broke it into pieces. Hezekiah loved and trusted God, and he followed all of God’s rules. God was with Hezekiah and he was a very successful king.

The king of Assyria attacked the people of Israel and took them away to a different country. Hezekiah didn’t want to fight the king of Assyria, so he gave him a lot of money and gold. The king of Assyria still didn’t leave them alone, so he sent his army to take over Jerusalem.

The king of Assyria sent some of his officials to speak to Hezekiah’s officials. The officials from Judah asked the Assyrians to speak in a different language, but the Assyrians didn’t listen. The Assyrians told the people of Jerusalem that they should stop trusting in God and surrender to the king of Assyria. The people didn’t say anything back to the Assyrians because Hezekiah told them not to.

Biblical Lessons

It is important to remove anything in our lives that might lead us away from following God.
God’s power is greater than any human power or army.
Even when we are facing a difficult situation, we can trust in God to provide for us and protect us.
We should be brave and stand up for what is right, even when it is hard.
