This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in 1 Kings 1:28-40, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once upon a time, there was a king named David. He loved God very much and tried to be a good king. One day, King David said that his son Solomon would be the next king after him.
King David called for Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, to come to him. He promised her that her son Solomon would be the next king. Bathsheba bowed down and said, “May King David live forever!”
Then, King David called for some important people, like the priest Zadok, the prophet Nathan, and Benaiah. He told them to bring Solomon to Gihon on his mule. They were going to anoint him as the next king!
When they got there, Zadok the priest anointed Solomon with oil, and everyone blew trumpets and cheered, “Long live King Solomon!” Everyone was so happy that the earth shook with their joy!
Biblical Lessons
- God has a plan for each of our lives, and it is important to trust and follow His plan.
- It is important to keep our promises, just like King David promised Bathsheba that Solomon would be the next king.
- God’s blessings are worth celebrating and rejoicing over, just like the people celebrated and cheered when Solomon was anointed as king.
- We should respect and honor those whom God has put in positions of authority, just like the people honored and respected King David and the other important people who anointed Solomon as king.
- God can use ordinary people to do great things, just like how He used Solomon, who was just a young man, to be the next king of Israel.
