The Exodus – Bible Story for Kids

This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Exodus 12:31-51, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.

Once upon a time, there was a group of people called the Israelites who lived in Egypt. They had been living there for a very long time, for 430 years! But they were not free to do what they wanted to do because they were slaves to the Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.

God saw that the Israelites were suffering, and He wanted to rescue them from slavery. So God sent a man named Moses to help the Israelites. Moses went to the Pharaoh and asked him to let the Israelites go, but the Pharaoh said no. So God sent ten plagues to show the Pharaoh that He was powerful and that He wanted the Israelites to be free.

Finally, after the tenth plague, the Pharaoh let the Israelites go. The Israelites were so happy to be free! They gathered their things and started walking to a place called Canaan, which God had promised to give them.

There were about 600,000 men who left Egypt, plus women and children. They also had a lot of animals with them, like sheep and cows. They traveled for many days and nights, through the desert and over rough terrain.

God gave the Israelites a special way to remember how He had saved them. Before they left Egypt, the Lord gave Moses and Aaron some special instructions. He told them to have a special meal called the Passover every year. During the meal, they ate unleavened bread and remembered how God had brought them out of Egypt.

God hears our prayers and cares about our suffering.
God is powerful and can do amazing things to help us.
God keeps His promises and will never leave us.
