The Tower of Babel – Bible Story for Kids

This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Genesis 11:1-9, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.

A long time ago, after the flood, there were a lot of people living on the earth. They all spoke the same language, so they could understand each other very easily. They decided to move to a place called Shinar and make a city. They wanted to build a tall tower that reached up to the sky to show how great they were.

The people started making bricks out of clay and tar, and they worked very hard to build the tower. They thought they could do anything they wanted because they were so powerful and smart. But God saw what they were doing and didn’t like it.

God wanted people to spread out over the earth, not just stay in one place. He also didn’t like that they were trying to be better than Him. So God decided to make things harder for them. He made them all speak different languages, so they couldn’t understand each other anymore. The people couldn’t finish building the city and the tower because they couldn’t communicate with each other.

So God spread them all over the world and the city was never finished. The place where they were building the city was called Babel, which means confusion because that’s what happened. The people had to start over in different parts of the world, and they learned to speak different languages.

Biblical Lessons

God is all-powerful and can do anything He wants.
It’s not good to be proud and think you’re better than others.
God wants people to spread out and take care of the whole world.
We should trust God and follow His plan, even if we don’t understand it.
