This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Acts 8:26-39, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
There was a man named Philip who loved Jesus very much. One day, an angel of the Lord told Philip to go to a place called Gaza. It was a long way from where he lived, but Philip trusted God and went anyway.
When he got there, he saw a man in a chariot reading a book. This man was from Ethiopia, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship God and was going back home.
The Spirit of God told Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you’re reading?” The eunuch replied, “How can I, unless someone guides me?”
So Philip sat with him and they talked about the book the man was reading. It was a book of prophecy from the Bible, and it talked about a special person who would suffer for the sins of the world.
The man asked Philip, “Is the prophet talking about himself or someone else?” Philip explained that the prophet was talking about Jesus, the Son of God. Jesus came to earth to die for our sins and rise again, so that we could be forgiven and have eternal life with God.
As they were traveling, they came across a body of water. The eunuch asked Philip, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” So, they went into the water, and Philip baptized the eunuch.
After the baptism, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away. The eunuch was filled with joy and went on his way.
Biblical Lessons
- God can use anyone to spread His message, no matter how unlikely they may seem.
- The Bible is God’s word, and we can learn important truths from it if we read and study it.
- Just like Philip, we should be ready to obey God’s call and go where He sends us.
- We should be open to asking questions and seeking guidance from others when we don’t understand something in the Bible.
