This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Matthew 22:1-14, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once Jesus told a story about a king who was very excited to celebrate his son’s wedding. He invited many people to the wedding feast, but when the time came, they didn’t want to come.
The king sent more servants to tell them, “The feast is ready! I have prepared a wonderful dinner, with the best food, and everything is ready for you to come and celebrate with us!” But the invited guests didn’t pay attention. One went to his farm, another to his business, and some even hurt the king’s servants and killed them.
The king was very angry when he heard what happened, and he sent his army to punish those who hurt his servants. They destroyed their city and made sure they were punished for their bad behavior.
But the king still wanted to celebrate his son’s wedding. So he sent his servants out again, but this time to the main roads and invited anyone they could find, both good and bad, to come to the feast.
“Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find,” he said.
So the servants did as they were told, and soon the party was full of guests, and they all had a wonderful time celebrating the wedding of the king’s son.
However, the king noticed that one of the guests wasn’t wearing the special wedding clothes that everyone else was wearing. So he asked the man, “Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?”
The man was speechless, so the king told his servants, “Tie him up and throw him into the darkness outside, where there will be crying and teeth-grinding.”
