This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Luke 18:18-30, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once there was a rich ruler who came up to Jesus and asked, “Good Teacher, what do I need to do to live forever in heaven?”
Jesus responded, “Why do you call me good? Only God is good. You know what the commandments are: Don’t cheat on your spouse, don’t kill, don’t steal, don’t lie, honor your parents.”
The rich man replied, “I’ve followed all those rules since I was very young!”
Then Jesus told him, “You still need to do one more thing. Sell everything you have, give the money to the poor, and come follow me. If you do that, you’ll have treasure in heaven.”
The rich man became very sad when he heard this because he had a lot of money. Jesus saw that the man was sad and said, “It’s really hard for rich people to get into heaven. It’s easier for a big camel to go through the eye of a tiny needle than for a rich person to get into heaven.”
The people listening were surprised and asked, “If rich people can’t get into heaven, then who can?”
Jesus said, “It’s impossible for people to do it, but with God, all things are possible.”
Peter, one of Jesus’ followers, said, “We’ve left everything to follow you!”
Jesus said, “Everyone who leaves their house, their family, or anything else for me will be rewarded. They’ll get even more than what they gave up in this life and will live forever in heaven.”
