This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Mark 14:3-9, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
In Bethany, Jesus went to the house of Simon, who was once a leper. He was sitting at the table when a woman came with a special jar of perfume. The perfume was made from pure nard and was very expensive. She broke the jar and poured the perfume over Jesus’ head.
Some of the people who saw what happened were upset. They thought that the woman had wasted the expensive perfume. They said, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.”
But Jesus told them, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing for me. You will always have poor people with you, but you will not always have me. She has done what she could by anointing my body for burial. And wherever the good news about me is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
Biblical Lessons
- It’s important to show love and honor to Jesus in our own unique ways, just as the woman did by anointing Him with perfume.
- We should not judge others for their acts of love and devotion to Jesus, even if it seems unusual or extravagant.
- Jesus is more valuable than any possession or material thing.
- We should do good to others, but we should also show love and respect for Jesus.
