David Pardons His Enemies – Bible Story for Kids

This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in 2 Samuel 19:11-23, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.

Once there was a king named David. He had some people who helped him, called priests. David told the priests to talk to some other important people in a place called Judah. He asked them why they were taking so long to bring him back to his home. David wanted to go home because lots of people in Israel wanted him to be king again.

Then, David talked to a man named Amasa. David said that Amasa should be in charge of his army instead of another man named Joab. This made everyone happy, and they told David to come home. David went to a place called Gilgal to meet them.

But when he got there, a man named Shimei came up to him. Shimei had done some bad things before and he was sorry. He asked David to forgive him. David’s friend Abishai said that Shimei should be punished for what he did. But David said no, and he forgave Shimei.

Biblical Lessons

It is important to show kindness and mercy to others, especially when they admit their mistakes and ask for forgiveness.
When we forgive others, it not only benefits them but also brings peace and freedom to our own hearts.
David was a good leader because he cared for his people and was willing to forgive his enemies. We can learn from his example and strive to be kind, compassionate, and forgiving towards others.
We should not hold grudges or seek revenge, but instead, leave justice in God’s hands and trust Him to work everything out for our good.
This story also shows us the importance of keeping our promises and being honest with others, even when it may be difficult.
