Saul Anointed King – Bible Story for Kids

This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in 1 Samuel 10, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.

Once there was a man named Saul. God chose him to be the prince and leader of his people in Israel. To show that Saul was chosen by God, a prophet named Samuel poured oil on Saul’s head and gave him a kiss.

Samuel told Saul that he would save the people of Israel from their enemies. He also gave Saul some special signs to show that God had chosen him. Saul would meet two men who would tell him that his lost donkeys had been found. Then he would meet three men carrying goats, bread, and wine who would give him two loaves of bread.

After that, Saul would go to a city where there were prophets playing music and singing praises to God. The Spirit of the Lord would rush upon Saul, and he would start to prophesy too. When Saul saw all of these signs, he knew that God was with him.

Samuel also told Saul to go to a place called Gilgal and wait for him for seven days. When Samuel arrived, he would offer burnt offerings and peace offerings to God.

When Saul left Samuel, God gave him a new heart. And all the signs that Samuel told him about came true that day. Saul went to a city where he met some prophets, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he started to prophesy too. Everyone was amazed and asked, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

Later, Samuel called all the people together to Mizpah to make Saul their king. Samuel reminded the people how God had saved them from Egypt and many other kingdoms. But the people wanted a king, so they could be like other nations.

Samuel chose Saul to be king by drawing lots. But when they looked for Saul, they couldn’t find him. He was hiding among the baggage! When they found Saul, Samuel announced him as the chosen king. The people shouted, “Long live the king!”

Samuel told the people what kings were supposed to do, and he wrote it all down in a book. Then everyone went home, and Saul went to his home with some brave men who God had touched. But some people didn’t believe in Saul and didn’t give him presents. Saul didn’t say anything and stayed quiet.

Biblical Lessons

God’s plan for our lives may not always be what we expect or want, but it is always for our good and His glory.
When God calls us to a task, He equips us with everything we need to accomplish it.
Leaders are chosen by God to serve and lead His people, not to serve themselves.
Obedience to God’s commands and instructions is crucial for success in our endeavors.
God’s timing is perfect, and we need to trust Him even when we don’t understand what He is doing.
