This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in 2 Kings 9:1-13, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once upon a time, there was a man named Elisha. He was a prophet, which means he talked to God and told people what God wanted them to know.
Elisha talked to one of his helpers, and he told him to go find a man named Jehu. Jehu was going to be the new king of Israel, and Elisha’s helper had a special job to do. He was supposed to pour oil on Jehu’s head, which was a way of saying that God chose Jehu to be the king.
So the servant went to Ramoth-gilead to find Jehu. When he arrived, Jehu was in a meeting with other important people. The servant said, “I have a word for you, O commander.” And Jehu said, “To which of us all?” And he said, “To you, O commander.”
So Jehu went into the house, and the servant poured the oil on his head, saying to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, I anoint you king over the people of the Lord, over Israel. And you shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, so that I may avenge on Jezebel the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord. For the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every male, bond or free, in Israel. And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel, and none shall bury her.”
Then the servant ran away quickly, as he was instructed. When Jehu’s friends saw him, they thought the servant was crazy. But Jehu told them what the servant said, and they all believed him. They put their clothes on the ground and blew trumpets to let everyone know that Jehu was the new king.
