This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in Genesis 22:1-19, written for children to understand. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage.
Once upon a time, God spoke to a man named Abraham. God asked Abraham to do something very difficult, something that would test his love and faith in God.
God asked Abraham to take his beloved son Isaac, the only child he had with his wife Sarah, and go on a long journey to a place called Moriah. Once they arrived, God asked Abraham to offer Isaac as a sacrifice to Him.
Abraham loved his son very much, and this was a very hard thing for him to do. But Abraham loved and trusted God more than anything, so he obeyed and took Isaac on the journey.
On the way, Isaac asked his father, “Father, I see the wood and the fire, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham replied, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”
When they reached the place where God wanted them to make the sacrifice, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood. He then bound Isaac and placed him on top of the wood. Just as he was about to sacrifice his son, an angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven and said, “Abraham! Abraham!” And Abraham replied, “Here I am.”
The angel said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” Abraham looked around and saw a ram caught in a nearby bush, which God had provided to be the sacrifice instead of Isaac.
Abraham was relieved and happy that his son was safe, and he named the place where they were, “The Lord will provide.” God was pleased with Abraham’s obedience and promised to bless him and make him the father of many nations.
